  • The first seats announced, but the wait for substantial results continues...

At the time of writing, just after midnight, we have only three seats declared. All of the three declared are from Sunderland (as expected). In the past hour or so, we've seen a huge raft of guests joining David Dimbleby down the line - notably Ed Balls, Yvette Cooper and a representative from DUP on the reaction to the exit poll.

Jo Coburn has been reporting live from Thanet, where Nigel Farage is hoping to finally become an MP, revealing the declaration will be around 6am. Kirsty Wark and Sarah Smith are reporting from Scotland (Glasgow and Edinburgh respectively) with the latest rumours and developments ahead of the results officially being announced. Naga Munchetty has also been reporting from Newcastle after presenting Breakfast this morning. Newcastle is expected to make the next declaration after Sunderland any time now.

As with the Election Campaign coverage, Kamal Ahmed reported from Lib Dem camp in Sheffield with Nick Clegg, reflecting the muted mood following their poor performance thus far.

Reeta Chakrabarti has been presented a couple of news updates from Broadcasting House in Studio E - a different set up from 2010 when Fiona Bruce (overnight) and Sian Williams (daytime) presented the news updates from the Election Studio.

On the graphics side of things, I really like the new declaration graphic (i.e. Labour Hold) which has the moving animation in keeping with the general election graphics. It's these little touches which help massively improve the basic graphics of the regular BBC News presentation for Election Night.
