  • BBC News Presenter Count 2015: January-June: BBC News at Six

Hello again, George Alagiah remains on leave from the BBC so far this year, and its still not yet been announced when he will return. Kate Silverton too is still off on maternity leave this year and also not made appearances on the weekends meaning many News Channel presenters are making an appearance instead. To the numbers:

    1. Sophie Raworth - 47

    2. Reeta Chakrabarti - 44

    3. Fiona Bruce - 40

    4. Clive Myrie - 20

    5. Mishal Husain - 16

    6. Jane Hill - 13

    7. Huw Edwards - 10

    8. Simon McCoy - 6

    9. Ben Brown - 3

    10. Nicholas Owen - 2

    10. Emily Maitlis - 2

Sophie, Reeta and Fiona have been covering so far this year for George who is away on leave for illness, the rota seems to have been shared between the three and the numbers are quite close. But Sophie takes the top lead.

Clive Myrie takes the 4th position as the main cover presenter for Kate Silverton's Saturday evening shift, who is currently on maternity leave for all of this year so far. He also has been covering Sunday shifts when Mishal is focusing on Radio 4 duties.

Mishal Husain takes 5th for her role on her Sunday evening shift, but the number is relatively low because of her now focusing on her recently new role on Today on Radio 4.

Jane Hill seems to be the main relief presenter for during the week when the top 3 are unavailable, she too has appeared on a number of weekend bulletins too.

Huw surprisingly has appeared 10 times this year so far on the Six, all on location including terrorism in Paris, the Alps plane crash and a service held in Auschwitz.

Simon McCoy has appeared 6 times during the weekend along with Ben Brown (3) and Nicholas Owen (2) who have also appeared on the odd weekend bulletin.

Emily Maitlis used to be one of the regular cover presenters for the Six, but until recently has had a major role on Newsnight and has since only appeared twice on the Six this year. These two occasions are in the studio as meanwhile Sophie presents most of the program on location in the run up to the Election.
