  • BBC News Presenter Count 2015: BBC Business Live

Time for the first ever BBC Business Live count, so no comparisons to previous years, here, I’m afraid. The show is thriving, though, and I’ve personally taken to it as a suitable part of the BBC News Channel’s programming. Still, there is that old magic between Simon McCoy and Carrie Gracie that we all miss… (Rolls eyes, says to self: “Get over it, Tom.”) Anyway, here’s the count:

    (1) Sally Bundock – 89

    (2) Ben Thompson – 75

    (3) Aaron Heslehurst – 47

    (4) Victoria Fritz – 40

    (5) Alice Baxter – 18

    (6) Caroline Hepker – 7

    (7) Susannah Streeter – 6

    (8) Tanya Beckett – 1

    (9) Maryam Moshiri – 1

You’ve probably heard of all of these names one way or another. Fact: most of these presenters have done the business for BBC Breakfast. Another fact: a few of these have read the business for the Today programme, but which ones? OK, so… the choices were good for the regular line-up and the count details them as they should be ordered. I think Bundock and Thompson are both great and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them (most likely Thompson) hops over to BBC One for breakfast in a few years. Heslehurst: I love him, we all love him, right? Many pleasant memories of his booming voice on the TV at 6.18 in the morning every Friday. (For one reason or another, I used to watch Breakfast’s first hour most days during the week, years ago…) Fritz: probably the most likeable presenter out of the four mainstays and I liked her on Breakfast. Both Heslehurst and Fritz deserve more time on BBC Business Live, I think, as does Baxter from BBC World who comes across as professional and well read-up. More shifts for Beckett and Moshiri, please, just for experiences’ sakes and hey, why not have Steph McGovern every once in a while?

Joke to self: ha, it would be funny if anyone with authority at the BBC read this.
